
Dr. Amit Roy has been a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Ottawa since September 2026. His research focuses on advanced surface engineering, tribology, and thermal spray technologies for demanding aerospace and energy applications.
Dr. Roy earned his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Concordia University in 2023, where he developed thermally sprayed oxide coatings using Suspension Plasma Spraying (SPS) and High-Velocity Oxygen Fuel (HVOF) technologies for next-generation gas turbine engines. His research established key parameters governing oxide lubricity, friction reduction, and wear resistance at elevated temperatures through collaborations with McGill University, Pratt & Whitney (USA and Canada), and Castolin Eutectic Canada. He subsequently completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Concordia University (2023–2026), developing REACH-compliant, lead-free tribological coatings for aerospace journal bearings with Pratt & Whitney Canada and investigating CMAS interactions with thermal barrier coatings in collaboration with the National Research Council of Canada, contributing to improved understanding of degradation mechanisms in gas turbine environments.
Dr. Roy is a Scientific Editor for Results in Engineering (Elsevier) and served as Guest Editor for the special issue Advances in Thermal Spray Coatings: Technologies and Applications. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed journal articles, review papers, conference publications, and patents. His long-term research vision is to develop sustainable surface engineering solutions that improve the efficiency, durability, and reliability of components operating under extreme service conditions.
